The following is the Project list from our West Council. It includes specific projects, but also includes projects which are similar to the other seven Councils, and Chapter lists.There must be something listed here that would be of interest to you. - Ambulatory Equipment-wheelchairs, walkers are donated and stored at two locations for your use.
- Action Aids-toy drive at Christmas for this organization.
- Adopt a Teacher-with needed school supplies: paper, crayons, etc.
- Afghans/Lap Blankets-donated to Nursing Homes, VA hospitals, etc.
- Animal Shelters-need old towels/blankets/sheets.
- Angel Tree-900 Race Street, Christmas Project
- Autistic School Students-need special equipment, check w/teacher.
- Baby Caps-knitted baby caps for newborns in hospitals.
- Back Pack Projects-donating them to needy students/school.
- Breast Cancer “Comfort Pillows”-used for rehab/recovery.
- Breast Cancer Society-help with mail outs throughout the year.
- Books-new or gently used children’s books are always in demand and books for adults are needed for shelters, senior centers, etc.
- Be My Baby Project-baby items collected for needy mothers.
- Bingo Games at nursing homes-coordinate games/provide snacks/prizes.
- Blood Drives-support by donating blood/volunteering at event.
- Cards-greeting cards are made into Placemats for various events.
- Carousel house/Fairmont Park-members volunteer at various events.
- Campbell Soup Labels-donated to elementary schools.
- Canned Goods Collections-collected at our various meetings for food banks.
- Cereal Education Labels-donated to elementary schools.
- Care Giving-assisting seniors with Dr. appointments, shopping, etc.
- Clothing Drives-collect coats/clothing for Goodwill, shelters, etc.
- Coastal Clean Up-annual event in Delaware.
- Christmas Projects-collecting toys/money for numerous organizations.
- Cell phones-300 were collected for VZ Domestic Abuse Program.
- Christmas Stockings for Salvation Army-fill stockings.
- Church Activities-volunteering at your church: Choir, Fundraisers, etc.
- Clothing Drives-at offices or to local charities.
- Christmas Party-“Special Needs” party for Seniors/held in December.
- Computers-needed at schools, etc.
- Daffodil days-held at VZ locations, Pioneers coordinate sales.
- Dessert Night at the Magee Rehab Hospital-quarterly event.
- Dictionaries for grade school students-3rd grade and up-Literacy Program.
- Dragon Boat Races-Ken Kunz volunteers at these events.
- Easter Fellowship Breakfast at Carousel House-come on out!
- E-Maps-electronic map of the United States made by Pioneers.
- Eyeglass Collection-lenses, glasses, frames donated to Lions Clubs* They will supply collection boxes.
- Food Banks-members volunteer at various food banks.
- Fort Mifflin Work Days-members perform various functions-fun!
- Grocery Store Receipts-check w/your school/church.
- Girl Scouts/Brownies/Boy Scouts*-assist with functions/cookie sales, etc.
- Go Green-VZ encouraging employees to donate items to organizations rather than put it in trash, avoiding landfills: give to Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.
- Heart Pillows-made for recovering from heart/any kind of surgery.
- High Way Clean Ups.
- Household Items-donate to salvation Army, City Team Ministries, etc.
- Hug-A-Bears-used by police/fire depts./etc.
- Ingles House-Alice Keene Games-volunteers needed to assist residents.
- J.B.Heinz Wildlife Reserve-participate in cleanup days, etc-Kunz.
- Literacy Projects for Grade Schools-donate dictionaries, books,etc.
- Little League Coach*-coaching/or assisting-eligible for VZ Grant.
- Manna-Meal for AIDS patients/families-assist packaging meals.
- Marathons-need volunteers to work registration tables, hand out water, etc.
- Matching Grant Program*-active employees can have donations (to a 5013C organization) over $25 matched by the Verizon Foundation.
- Meals on Wheels-prepare and deliver meals to shut ins.
- Mentoring-member involved with a Teen group in West Phila.
- Magazines-donated to Nursing Homes/Ronald McDonald House, etc.
- Material-have excess? Donate to an art teacher or our Sewing Ladies.
- Mittens and Hat Drives-collected and given to schools to distribute.
- Pen Pal Program-communicate with students via email.
- Pillow cases-for children w/cancer-Debbie Kelly.
- PTA-“Volunteering” with your child’s school.
- Placemat Project-made from donated cards used at our Special Needs Christmas Party, etc.
- RAMPS-for disabled at parks, etc. Delaware Project.
- Recycling Projects-paper drives at church/community, etc.
- Ronald McDonald House (West Philadelphia) prepare dinner for @125 guests every month.
- School Yard Maps-paint 30’x30′ map in school yard.
- Schools-volunteering your time at schools/reading/tutoring, etc.
- Shelters-need toiletries, clothing, etc. check their wish list.
- Soda cans-use bins in your office.
- Soda Tabs-collect tabs/supports guests at R.McDonald House.
- Talking Books-teams repair books for the blind.
- Thinkfinity Program-free pc program for teachers/students from VZ.
- Tree Tender Program-Ken Kunz participates in this Phila. program.
- Town Watch*-members participate in their neighborhoods.
- Toiletry Collections-soaps, lotions, combs, toothbrushes, etc. (travel sizes also).
- Toy Modification-teams modify toys to teachers specifications.
- USO-buying calling cards for active service people/assist their programs.
- Valley Forge Clean Up Days-May and September.
- Veterans Nursing Homes-need volunteers.
- * Verizon Foundation Grants-active employees who volunteer 50 hours to a 5013c Charity (School, PTA, Boy or Girl Scout, Little League, Food Bank, Church, etc.)a year can apply to the foundation for a $750 grant for that organization.
- Wills Eye Hospital-volunteers work on their free exam day.
- Walk-A-Thon- members participate in numerous walks, Memory Walk, Butterfly Walk, Breast Cancer Walk, Light the Light, etc.
- Woman’s Domestic Abuse Shelters-need toiletries, women’s and children’s clothing: underwear, socks, baby diapers, wipes, household items, literacy programs for local shelters.
